US Firms on Top

The latest law firm rankings based on gross profits, headcount and profits-per-partner show how hard the recession has hit the Magic Circle and third-tier British firms, which have slipped badly if not right off the rankings.  The American Lawyer rankings put the top spots based on revenues to Baker & McKenzie and Skadden Arps, but last year’s leaders – Linklaters and Freshfields – dropped to fourth and sixth place respectively.  In fact, six of the top 10 rankings were US firms with the highest profit per partner ranking going to Wachtell, Lipton.  As the survey noted, the recession has been an “equal opportunity destroyer of revenue at most of the global 100 firms”.
